Forward
Herein lie tales from a land of a forgotten age. A time in
which taniwha lurked in the depths of rivers, men changed
into forms of animals, and when gods ruled the fate of all. Demons
and malevolent spirits were lurking everywhere, strict protocol
was required for every action, least some deity were to be offended
and plague the tribe with famine or disease. This is the world
of the ancients. The prehistory here told is an endeavour not
to mock or ridicule, nor is it to educate or impress. It is simply
here as stories to be told, and it is my hope that the reader
takes it as such. It is a personal work of discovery, not a laborious
study of authenticity. The tales presented here have been derived
from many sources, and are recounted as I understand them. Open
your mind to magic and mystery, and journey into this land of
old.

"If the story was beautiful, the beauty belongs to us
all; if it was bad, the fault is mine only, who told it."
-Campbell, Joseph The Complete Grimms Fairy Tales, p 842
