Poetry Page Two

People I've met and things I've seen
Things I've done and places I've been
One stands out above the rest
One stands out as being the best
Thousands of faces every day
Of everyone come who may
Hell's high water here I stand
For the few who offered their hand
Current strong and pressure fast
For everyone who didn't last
A million girls with a million lies
To everyone for whom love cries
For standing up and being strong
For never caring who was wrong
To everyone who'll ever live
Those who take and those who give
One stands out above the rest
One stands out as being the best
For those who nearly touched the sky
For those who even dared to try
To everyone who had a heart
And those who watched it tear apart
For God who watched us suffer here
In a world of hate and fear
To everyone who died in vain
And to those in mortal pain
For chivalrous knights of days long past
For glorious victories and empires vast
Of the heroes and of the rest
One stands out as being the best
To peasants, serfs, slaves and such
Where freedom was too far to clutch
From nobles who put men in chains
To the soldier covered in bloody stains
The humble student taking his test
The policeman in his bulletproof vest
The comedian with his taunt and jest
The good, the bad, and all the rest
The politician with his puffed out chest
The criminal trying to avoid arrest
One stands out above the rest
One stands out, I must confess
Of the heroes and of the rest
One stands out as being the best
